Harvard
Study Says Drink a Day Cuts Heart Risk in Diabetics
A study from the Harvard University School of Public Health
in Boston indicates that men with type 2 diabetes who drink
between on-half and two alcoholic drinks per day reduce their
risk of heart disease. A report to the American College of Cardiology
covered by a Reuters wire service story said researchers
collected data from 1,419 men. Compared to non-drinkers, men
who consumed half a drink or less per day had 24% less risk
of heart disease, those who drink one-half to two drinks daily
had 36% less risk and those who drank more than two drinks per
day had 41% less risk. The report said that beer, wine and liquor
were all associated with lower heart disease risk.
